Star Horse - Kiss A Smile

This Weeks Artist: Star Horse
Track Sampled: Kiss A Smile
Genre: Dream Pop/Rock

So, what did I think?
Star Horse is a four-member band from Stockholm with less than 300 likes on Facebook, but their sound has a tremendous amount of potential. With no Wikipedia pages, zero hits on iTunes and a deleted tumblr I consider this band a mystery, though you can listen to and purchase their EP on bandcamp at the above link, not much else is to be known about this band. Airy mellow vocals and smooth transitions on heavily distorted guitars give an ethereal feel to their short track list and leaves me wanting more, so I am definitely going to keep an ear open for new music from this group. So give it a listen, share if you like and as always, enjoy!

Black Lips - Before You Judge Me

This Weeks Artist: Black Lips
Track Sampled: Before You Judge Me
Genre: Modern Southern Angry Rock

So, what did I think?

This Georgia born band is mucho groovy and I am definitely a fan of their in your face sound. With dated guitars and rolling melodic drums I can see any one of Black Lips’ songs being used commercially. They almost remind me of The Black Keys meets The Hives but with more of a rugged, garage-borne, hole in the wall feel to them that is bubbly and pissed off at the same time. Their sound is refreshing, modern and makes me want to enjoy some quality time goofing off with close friends and family. Their song Bicentennial Man sounds a lot like previously posted song Answer to Yourself by The Soft Pack, they share the same vintage beach day surfer jam style that I am very much into at the moment, so give it a listen, share if you like and as always enjoy!

Lao Che - Zombi

This Weeks Artist: Lao Che
Track Sampled: Zombi
Genre: Electronic/Punk/Folk-Crossover

So, what did I think?

This imaginative band from Poland has received many prestigious awards, though there probably aren’t many people on this side of the pond who have heard of them. Their songs range in genre from electronica to militant-ska to surreal modernist polka, but all of the tracks that I listened to, including live recordings were both well executed and emotionally driven. Their song Magistrze pigularzu is also enjoyable with a more trance-like feel to it than Zombi, and Koniec is fantastic to say the least, just don’t let the somewhat harsh sounding Polish lyrics scare you away. I am enjoying this band and I hope that you will to, so give it a listen, share if you wish and as always, enjoy!

Cherry Ghost - Mathematics

This Weeks Artist: Cherry Ghost
Track Sampled: Mathematics
Genre: Indie Rock / Pop

So, what did I think?

Smooth, deliberate instrumentals accompany intelligent and thoughtful lyrics in this catchy track. The band Cherry Ghost hails from Bolton, England and has quite a following across the pond. They have performed at numerous festivals and the first of their two albums peaked at #7 on the UK charts. Considering their quality productions and artful videos I am quite surprised that I have never heard of this band before, but I am delighted to have found them and the handful of tracks that I have listened to so far have been to my liking. So go ahead and give them a listen. If you like what you hear, share it with your social circles and as always, Enjoy!

P.S. This version of the track includes a very long stretch of silence in the middle and is almost half an hour long, but the last couple of minutes is another short, acoustic/impromptu feeling little song, so check it out!
